Simona Halep destined for a Grand Slam win in 2018
By Harry Floyd
Simona Halep is this year’s runner-up at the Australian Open. The Romanian tennis star is on the verge of her first career major win.
Simona Halep falls to now world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki in the Australian Open finals. The Romanian will at least temporarily vacate the top ranking in women’s singles as Wozniacki cruises to the top. The Danish tennis star takes the finals meeting, winning 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4.
The finals at Melbourne Park is without a doubt one of the best in recent years. Halep, despite the loss, ought to be proud of her 2018 WTA Tour so far. She will be a top pick in any of the remaining Grand Slam events this year.

Halep was last year’s runner-up at the French Open too. There is no doubt that coming so close to a major title yet again is difficult for the Romanian tennis star. Halep has now appeared in three Grand Slam finals throughout her career. That goes along with two other semifinals appearances.
The 2017 WTA Tour marked a new era in Simona Halep’s career.
The Romanian tennis star is already off to an impressive start in 2018. After winning the title at the Shenzhen Open, she followed it up with her second place finish at Melbourne Park.
Both tournaments featured huge wins over top players in women’s singles tennis. At 26-years-old, Halep is destined to win a Grand Slam singles title in the near future.
As the 2018 WTA Tour rolls on, Halep should be battling back and forth with Wozniacki and others for the top ranking in women’s singles tennis. The sport appears to be seeing a resurgence on the women’s side. Several young rising stars are making names for themselves and players such as Wozniacki and Halep are entering their prime. 2018 will provide many more fantastic major tournament finishes and the Romanian will likely be involved in some of them.
