Caroline Wozniacki has been a top name in women’s tennis for years. Her Grand Slam win this month though, ushers in a new era for the WTA Tour.

Caroline Wozniacki is ushering in a new era in women’s tennis. Her first career Grand Slam title comes at the 2018 Australian Open and it’s clear that the sport is experiencing a resurgence.

The 2018 WTA Tour will likely see more outstanding performances from Wozniacki and others of her generation. While she defeats Simona Halep in the finals at Melbourne Park, Halep remains in search of her first Grand Slam title. That could easily come later this year.

With the absence of tennis legend and American great Serena Williams, women’s singles tennis is up for grabs. Players such as Wozniacki have been on the verge of historic greatness for years. The Danish tennis star has previously been a world No. 1 but was yet to win a Grand Slam title. Now, she is amongst unique company in the sport of tennis and should look to add more majors to her resume in the coming Grand Slams.

Caroline Wozniacki is the new world No. 1 in women’s singles tennis.

The win for Wozniacki reveals the current state of women’s singles tennis.

Look for her to be a top contender in any tournament she plays this year. But, do not forget the likes of Halep, Karolina Pliskova, Garbine Muguruza, Jelena Ostapenko, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina and more. The list goes on. The Australian Open even welcomed 15-year-old Marta Kostyuk into the round of 32. The sport is without a doubt entering a new era and Wozniacki is simply here to lead the charge.

Do not count Halep out in any Grand Slam moving forward. It seemed that Wozniacki was down and out in her Australian opener but she roared back and found that magi formula for the remainder of the tournament. Halep can easily do the same at any given moment. The 2017 WTA Tour saw a swapping of the top ranking in women’s singles tennis. This year, the position will also likely change hands several times.

It isn’t only up to the younger generation of players either. Former Australian Open champion Angelique Kerber made a solid run at the major tournament, threatening to go for a second title at Melbourne Park. While she would lose to Halep in the semifinals, Kerber is off to a phenomenal start in 2018. Winning the Sydney International and then reaching the semis at Melbourne Park, she could easily chase that elusive top ranking in late 2018.
