Federer Wozniacki are the names to know after the 2018 Australian Open. Both tennis stars take the singles titles at Melbourne Park.

Federer Wozniacki are names that everyone in tennis already know.

They are in the process of cementing their legacies though after the 2018 Australian Open. The win at Melbourne Park is Wozniacki’s first Grand Slam title. She has previously been a world No. 1 on the WTA Tour, but now she has a major tournament win to back it up.

Wozniacki jumps ahead of Romanian tennis star Simona Halep for the top ranking. Women’s singles tennis is currently experiencing a resurgence and, with Serena Williams out of the mix right now, young stars will continue to make names for themselves.

Winning in historic fashion, the Danish tennis star defeats Halep in a three-set epic final. Halep ought to be proud of her performance this month though and there is no doubt that she will bounce back. The Romanian remains in search of her first career major win. Last year, she also finished runner-up at the French Open, losing to Jelena Ostapenko.

As for Federer, the Australian Open title is his 20th career Grand Slam singles win. He ties Novak Djokovic with six titles at Melbourne Park and will likely add more to his overall major numbers in the coming months. He must be considered the player to beat this year on the ATP World Tour. Winning two majors last year and the defending his Australian Open title at the start of 2018, Federer is on top of the world.

Federer Wozniacki are the names in the headlines this week. That will not change much moving forward. The Swiss great is threatening to once again retake the world No. 1 ranking in men’s singles. In women’s singles, Wozniacki has already done it. Her strong start to 2018 has given her enough momentum to jump into the top spot. Federer will likely join her atop the rankings if he plays in any upcoming tournaments. World No. 1 Rafael Nadal is currently testing out his grade one leg injury. His team expects him to miss just three weeks but anything can happen between now and then.
