Roger Federer was understandably emotional after his Australian Open win. The Swiss star broke down into tears just after his post-match speech.

The magical run at Melbourne Park adds to the fairy tale mystique that Roger Federer has created around himself. He even told the crowd in his speech that, “The fairy tale continues.”

After the five-set win against Cilic, Federer and the runner-up congratulated one another. An interesting thing to note is that the two tennis greats even spent some time practicing together in the offseason. Both players have witnessed resurgences in their careers over the past two years. Cilic, like Federer, is finding a new rhythm on tour. He is a former US Open champion and should be considered a top contender in any of the upcoming majors.

While Cilic put up a brilliant fight against the world No. 2, Federer ultimately took the fifth and final set 6-1. He could not be stopped at that point and it was clear that Grand Slam number 20 was well on its way into Federer’s arms.

Roger Federer is a six-time Australian Open champion.

The Swiss superstar came in as one of the favorites alongside Rafael Nadal. Never letting up one bit, Federer made the Grand Slam run look easy. There is no doubt though, that the world No. 2 is one of the hardest working players on the ATP World Tour. His offseason work pays off with yet another major tournament title. Even though only one of his 20 Grand Slams has come at Roland Garros, Federer should be a player to watch this year at the French Open.
