Mirza Basic is now an ATP singles title holder. The Bosnian tennis player wins the first tournament of his career in Sofia.
Defeating Romanian tennis player Marius Copil in the finals, Mirza Basic earns himself his first career ATP singles title. The Bosnian is approaching career heights yet again. The win is a fantastic accomplishment for him and he also moves closer to his highest career ranking. Having previously reached as high as the world No. 109 position on the ATP World Tour, he will likely jump close to that in the rankings this week.
Basic wins the finals meeting at the Sofia Open in three sets. He defeats Copil, winning 7-6, 6-7, 6-4. He also took down top seeded Stan Wawrinka in the semifinals before action on Sunday.
A solid week of tennis gives the Bosnian tennis player his first ever singles title. With a 19-13 career record on the ATP World Tour, Basic has proven himself able to hang with some of the best in the sport. His title win at the 2018 Sofia Open should boost his momentum moving forward.
Copil was also seeking his first career title. He will, however, remain in search of the honor. The Sofia Open is an ATP World Tour 250 Series event. Last year, Bulgaria’s own Grigor Dimitrov took the title. This year, the tournament played host to a new title winner.
