David Goffin is into the quarterfinals at the 2018 Rotterdam Open. He faces a tough opponent in Tomas Berdych in his next match.
David Goffin and Tomas Berdych makeup the first quarterfinals meeting at the 2018 Rotterdam Open. The Belgian tennis star is the fourth seed this week at the ATP World Tour event and Berdych is the sixth seed.
While Goffin is the slight favorite in their match, Berdych has had a strong start to his 2018 tour. At Melbourne Park, he fell to the ultimate champion Roger Federer in the quarterfinals. Goffin, on the other hand, dropped out in the round of 64. Although he did reach the semifinals last week at the Open Sud de France, Goffin is in need of a win right now.
The Belgian tennis star is the current world No. 7 in men’s singles tennis. He has a 5-2 ATP singles match record coming into play this week and would like to crack into the top five in the coming weeks. Already in Rotterdam, world No. 4 and third seeded Alexander Zverev saw an upset to Andreas Seppi of Italy. Both top seeded Federer and second seed Grigor Dimitrov remain in action. Federer is chasing the top ranking in men’s singles.

The Belgian has his work cut out for him against Berdych. The Czech tennis veteran has a vast amount of experience on tour. Looking at their career head to head, Berdych has a 2-1 advantage over Goffin. While the two match wins is not the end all be all when picking sides, the Czech tennis star does bring a resume including 13 ATP singles titles. Berdych is the current world No. 17 in men’s singles tennis.

David Goffin must dig deep and bring his best tennis in the quarterfinals. If he can advance past the Czech tennis star, he may very well be a contender for the title. As of right now, Federer stands to be the overall favorites. A semifinals appearance for the Swiss great would give him the top ranking in the sport over Rafael Nadal. The Spanish superstar is out for three weeks while he rehabs a grade one leg injury. Look for Federer to continue to be on top of his game this week and stay tuned to see how Goffin and others fare at the 2018 Rotterdam Open.
