John Isner: American earns much needed first ATP win of 2018
By Harry Floyd
John Isner is in action this week at the 2018 Delray Beach Open. He earns his ATP singles win on the tour in his Delray opener.
John Isner is just 1-3 on the year so far in singles matches. His only previous win came during ITF action in Serbia. Now, he has an ATP singles win under his belt and can continue moving forward. The American defeats Rado Albot of Moldova just one week after losing to Albot at the New York Open. Isner is the sixth seed this week at the Delray Beach Open.
The sixth seeded Isner wins his meeting with Albot in three sets. Fighting back to earn a hard fought victory, the American takes the match 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.
John Isner is the current world No. 18 on the ATP World Tour.
Seeing two titles in 2017, Isner has high hopes for his 2018 tour. His slow start, however, has been a bit of a disappointment for the American tennis veteran. A solid run at the Delray Beach Open could do wonders to jumpstart his early 2018 action.

Also playing this week is American Jack Sock. He is the top seed at the Delray Beach Open and also wins his opener. Sock was yet to win a match on the year so far coming into this week. He is the current world No. 8 in men’s singles tennis and must find his rhythm if he hopes to remain in the ATP Top 10. Sock represents the next generation of American men’s tennis. Isner represents the veteran generation of US tennis players. Both could take advantage of deep runs at the ATP World Tour 250 series event. Sock moves on and faces fellow American Reilly Opelka next this week.
