New world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki falls in the semifinals at the 2018 Qatar Open. Her performance at the WTA Tour event, however, is a strong showing moving forward.

Wozniacki is still riding high after her first ever Grand Slam singles title. Winning the 2018 Australian Open, she defeated Romanian tennis star Simona Halep in the finals. Wozniacki was a former world No. 1 but the major tournament win gives her resume that extra boost she’s been looking for. Since Melbourne Park, she has fared well.

Opening her time at the Qatar Open against Carina Witthöft of Germany, Wozniacki jumped off to a great start. She took her meeting against the young German with ease, winning 6-2, 6-0. Up next for the Danish tennis star was Romania’s Monica Niculescu. While the Romanian tennis veteran put up a better fight than Wozniacki’s previous opponent, the top seeded Wozniacki ended up on top. Winning 7-5, 6-1, she advanced into the quarterfinals.
