Angelique Kerber finally sees her exit at the 2018 Miami Open. The former world No. 1 is ousted by American Sloane Stephens.

Former world No. 1 Angelique Kerber is ousted from the Miami Open quarterfinals. American tennis star Sloane Stephens defeats her in straight sets in order to advance at the WTA Tour event. Stephens was also fresh off of a win over the third seeded Garbine Muguruza. The young American is without a doubt someone to watch moving forward in Miami.

Stephens takes down Kerber with ease, going 6-1, 6-2 during their quarterfinals meeting. Kerber should be proud of her performance this past week though.

Coming into the Miami Open as the current world No. 10 in women’s singles tennis, the German is also in third place in the Race to Singapore standings. Her 2018 WTA Tour has featured several impressive tournament runs to go along with one title victory so far. She is off to a fine start on the 2018 season and should be someone to watch throughout the middle months of the year. Look for Kerber to takeaway plenty of positives from the action this week. Her 2018 Miami Open run featured two decisive match wins and a hard-fought three-set win before her meeting with Stephens. Prior to play in Miami, the German tennis star was behind just Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki in the Race to Singapore.

Simona Halep has overtaken Caroline Wozniacki for the world No. 1 ranking, but Wozniacki remains ahead in the Race to Singapore. Several players are sure to swap positions in the coming weeks if tournaments continue to feature such competitive fields.
