John Isner has rebounded from his slow start to the 2018 ATP World Tour. The American takes the title at the Miami Open.

After a slow start to the year, John Isner is back on top. He defeats rising German tennis star Alexander Zverev in the finals at the 2018 Miami Open.

The win for Isner is his first career Masters 1000 title. Despite his impressive list of accomplishments to date, he was yet to win on such a stage. Now, he gets the Masters 1000 win right when he needs it most. He takes the meeting with Zverev, going 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 6-4.

Isner, like several other American men’s tennis stars, did not open year strong up. The title win in Miami comes at just the right moment for the American veteran. Plus, it comes over one of the hottest young players in the sport. Zverev came into action at the Miami Open as the world No. 5 in men’s singles tennis. Isner, on the other hand, was the world No. 17 on the ATP World Tour. The impressive performances for both players will help in the rankings.

John Isner defeated the likes of Marin Cilic, Hyeon Chung, and Juan Martin del Potro, among others, prior to his finals meeting with Alexander Zverev.

Just 2-6 in his singles matches prior to action in Miami, Isner could have been considered a long shot for the title. The odds on favorite coming into play had to be Swiss great Roger Federer. The 2018 Australian Open champion has been red hot so far on the year. While he was the favorite in Miami, Federer saw the unexpected loss in his opener. This comes just after losing in the finals at Indian Wells to Del Potro. It’s nothing to worry about for Federer though. He and Rafael Nadal will remain the players to beat on the 2018 ATP World Tour moving forward. Currently, all eyes are on Nadal and whether or not he will be healthy enough to return to action in the coming weeks.
