Garbine Muguruza is the 2018 Monterrey Open champion in women’s singles tennis. She takes down Timea Babos in the finals.

Garbine Muguruza is the current world No. 3 in women’s singles tennis. She has been bested by the likes of Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki so far on the 2018 WTA Tour. Muguruza, however, remains poised to breakout and reach the top ranking in women’s singles in the near future. She proves why she deserves to take the top position anytime now as she wins the title at the 2018 Monterrey Open this week.

Defeating second seed Timea Babos, Muguruza fights from down a set to earn a hard fought victory at the WTA International event.

Muguruza wins in three sets over Babos in the finals. It’s fitting that both top seeded Muguruza and second seeded Babos would meet for the championship. The Spanish tennis star goes 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to earn the title. It is a much needed win for her as she aims to distance herself from several other players vying for top positions in the WTA Top 10.

Garbine Muguruza is a two-time Grand Slam champion. Her win at Monterrey sets her up nicely for the middle months of the 2018 WTA Tour.

The Monterrey Open champion is one of the best in the sport right now. A 2016 winner at the French Open and a 2017 champion at Wimbledon, Muguruza is in the prime of her career. At just 24-years-old, she is poised to remain one of the players to beat on the WTA Tour in the coming years. Muguruza has seen success in the middle months of the year before. Now, she has a chance to do that again in 2018. Her win in Monterrey gives her some much needed momentum going forward. As for Babos, she too should take plenty of positives away from her run this week.
