It’s Dutch tennis star Kiki Bertens who outlasts the field after a unique ending to the Charleston Open. Rain became a major factor this weekend at the WTA Tour event.
While one semifinals match was partially underway on Saturday before being pushed back, Bertens and Madison Keys saw theirs moved entirely to Sunday. That meant the winner of their semifinals match would need to dig deep in a championship match later on that same day. The seventh seeded Keys did not go away lightly, making Bertens force a third set.
