Alexander Zverev enters action in Munich as the tournament’s top seed. Here’s a look at who he needs to look out for at the event.

German tennis star Alexander Zverev is the defending champion at the Bavarian International. He enters the action this week as the top seed and player to beat.

Currently, Zverev is sitting in the world No. 3 ranking behind just Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. The young German leapfrogged Marin Cilic for the No. 3 ranking this past week and is looking to gain ground in Munich. He is the tournament’s top seed, followed by Roberto Bautista Agut in the second seeded position. Here’s a look at the rest of the main draw.

So far on the 2018 ATP World Tour, Zverev is yet to win a singles title. That doesn’t mean he is without success though. His 17-7 singles match record on the year has catapulted him into the ATP Top 3 yet again. And, at just 21-years-old, there is no reason to think he will slow down anytime soon. Munich could be a solid jumping off point for a middle of the year run.

Alongside older brother Mischa Zverev, other German tennis stars are also in action in Munich. Another former champion in Philipp Kohlschreiber could prove to be a worthy adversary against any player at the Bavarian International. He is a three-time title winner at the event and has reached the finals five times. He finds himself as the sixth seed this week and faces Ivo Karlovic first at the tournament. If Alexander Zverev hopes to defend his title, he will need to be at his very best. The young tennis star has emerged as one leading a future generation of stars in men’s singles tennis. A solid outing in Munich could provide some much needed momentum heading into play at Roland Garros which is right around the corner. Stay tuned to see how the top seed fares at the upcoming play in Munich.
