Caroline Wozniacki retires from her outing at the 2018 Istanbul Cup this week. The Danish tennis star was the top seeded player.

Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki is out of the 2018 Istanbul Cup action after suffering an abdominal injury during play. In her quarterfinals match against French tennis player Pauline Parmentier, Wozniacki retired before the start of the third set.

Splitting the quarterfinals match one set a piece, the top seed could not go on.

Wozniacki is a former champion at the WTA Tour event in Istanbul. Winning the 2014 title in women’s singles there, and of course given her fantastic play so far in 2018, she was easily considered the favorite in the tournament. Now, Istanbul could see a new champion with her out of the mix. Parmentier moves on for a chance to keep her run alive. The action in women’s singles at the 2018 Istanbul Cup continues this weekend at the WTA Tour event. Parmentier faces Romanian Irina-Camelia Begu next in the semifinals.
