Italian Open Quarterfinals Set In Women’s Singles

The Italian Open quarterfinals are all set on the women’s singles side. Here’s a look at who has the best chances moving forward.
Quarterfinals action is underway at the 2018 Italian Open. On the women’s singles side of the field, plenty of top seeds remain alive. The favorite has to be the No. 1 seeded Simona Halep. She takes on Caroline Garcia next in a much anticipated matchup.
Also still alive, however, is second seed Caroline Wozniacki. The Danish tennis star reached career heights by notching her first ever Grand Slam singles title earlier in the year. The win over Halep in the Australian Open finals put her into the history books. Now, Wozniacki is going back and forth with the Romanian tennis star for the top ranking in women’s singles.

Action in Rome is sure to set up thrilling semis and finals next. Wozniacki takes on Anett Kontaveit next at the Italian Open. Kontaveit is fresh off of a big win over American tennis great Venus Williams. She took the match in straight sets.
Another exciting quarterfinals match features two stellar players in women’s singles. Russian tennis legend and former world No. 1 Maria Sharapova takes on rising star Jelena Ostapenko. The young Latvian is the fifth seed this week in Rome and Sharapova is unseeded. It is veteran expertise going up against the new generation in women’s singles. Last year, Ostapenko won the French Open and is looking to regain that same momentum one year later. She and Sharapova face off on Friday with the other quarterfinalists.
Elina Svitolina takes on Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinals at the Italian Open. They meet on Friday at the tournament.

Svitolina is the tournament’s fourth seed whereas Kerber is the 11th seed. Kerber, however, is among the best this year in women’s singles tennis. She and Svitolina have both seen impressive successes so far on the 2018 WTA Tour. The WTA Race to Singapore is heating up and these two are right at the center of it.
