Simona Halep is the current world No. 1 in women’s singles tennis. She takes on American Alison Riske first at the French Open.

Romanian tennis star Simona Halep enters the 2018 French Open as the world No. 1 and top seed on the women’s singles side. She is one of the odds on favorites. Halep will square off against American tennis player Alison Riske first at Roland Garros.

While Halep should not get ahead of herself, she does have the edge in her first match. Riske has seen some success throughout her career on the WTA Tour, but the world No. 1 ought to be considered the heavy favorite during their meeting at the French Open.

Halep and Riske meet on Sunday at Roland Garros. The Romanian tennis star is seeking her first career Grand Slam singles title. Last year, she finished runner-up to Jelena Ostapenko at the event. This year, she has a chance at redemption. Look for Halep to come out strong at the tournament. Nothing is a given at a Grand Slam though. Other favorites are in the mix who could prove difficult to knock out. One of those is Danish tennis star and current Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki. She is in Paris and preparing for the upcoming action at Roland Garros.
