John Isner is into the round of 16 at the 2018 French Open. The American tennis veteran is taking on Juan Martin del Potro next.

American tennis veteran John Isner takes on Juan Martin del Potro next at the 2018 French Open. Both players have a vast amount of experience on the ATP World Tour. Del Potro is a former US Open champion, but neither has tasted glory yet at the French Open. Isner’s reaching the fourth round of action matches his best performances at Roland Garros.

Looking at their career head-to-head singles matches, Del Potro has a slight edge over the American. Isner is 4-6 throughout his career against Del Potro. The two square off on Monday at the French Open.

Isner enters their match as the tournament’s 9th seed in men’s singles. Del Potro is the 5th seed. So far on the 2018 ATP World Tour, Isner has managed to earn one singles title. His strong play throughout the recent months have made him the American player to beat. At the start of the year, Jack Sock was thought to be the top American tennis star. Isner, however, has reasserted himself as one of the best in the sport. Del Potro’s year is going extremely well though too. He has two ATP singles titles on the year and is the current world No. 6 on the ATP World Tour.

John Isner has won his last two meetings with Juan Martin del Potro. One of those wins came earlier this year in the Miami semifinals. He has a strong chance against Del Potro next at the 2018 French Open.

Miami 2018 was a major highlight in John Isner’s career. His stellar run included a win over the great Del Potro and now he has a chance to knock him out of another big event. Action at Roland Garros might feature Rafael Nadal as the heavy favorite, but these two veterans can easily play spoiler moving forward.
