Rafael Nadal into French Open finals against Dominic Thiem
By Harry Floyd
The King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, reaches a French Open final yet again this year. He faces a difficult matchup in Dominic Thiem.
Rafael Nadal is into yet another French Open final. He takes on rising tennis star Dominic Thiem for the title. While Rafa is the favorite, a victory is not a given. Thiem and Nadal have battled back and forth throughout the 2018 ATP World Tour.
Nadal has a 6-3 career ATP singles record against the young Austrian. Looking at just 2018 tour, however, Nadal is just 1-1 against his younger opponent. Thiem also has momentum on his side, having won their last meeting at the Madrid Open.

Anything can happen in a Grand Slam final. Thiem remains in search of his first career major tournament title. This year marks another successful run at Roland Garros for the rising tennis star. He appears poised to take home a title-win at the French Open at some point and this year could be it.
With his strong clay court play as of late, Nadal is not necessarily walking into this match the clearcut favorite. Injuries have hampered the King of Clay throughout the past year. Like several other top players on the ATP World Tour, such as Novak Djokovic, Milos Raonic, and Andy Murray to name a few, Nadal has dealt with his own lingering injuries.
Rafael Nadal has found momentum during the clay court season but needs to be at his best against Dominic Thiem. The 2018 French Open features the greatest to ever play at Roland Garros against one of the sport’s up and coming stars in men’s singles.
