Rafael Nadal: another day, another French Open title
By Harry Floyd
Rafael Nadal cruises through Dominic Thiem to earn his 11th career French Open title. He completes a fantastic run at Roland Garros.
Men’s singles sees a familiar champion in Rafael Nadal at the 2018 French Open. Commentators described an “air of inevitability” several times over the course of his finals match against Austrian star Dominic Thiem. While the young Thiem has seen some success against Nadal as recently as this year, he was no match for the King of Clay this week in Paris.
Nadal wins in straight sets to defend his title at Roland Garros. He ousts Thiem, going 6-4 6-3 6-2, taking home yet another Grand Slam title at the event he is now synonymous with.

Throughout his time at Roland Garros, Nadal proved his dominance on clay. He defeats the likes of Guido Pella, Richard Gasquet, Maximilian Marterer, Diego Schwartzman, Juan Martin del Potro, and then Dominic Thiem in the finals.
His win marks another historic run for the Spanish superstar at the Grand Slam event. It appears as though age is just a number for veteran greats such as Rafa and Roger Federer. The two continue to headline the ATP World Tour, challenging even the best rising stars in men’s singles tennis. Hats off to Thiem though, who will surely be vying for another major tournament win in the near future.
Congratulations to Dominic Thiem on an impressive performance this year at Roland Garros. It is the King of Clay, Rafael Nadal, who takes home the French Open title though. Rafa defends his 2017 title, winning his 11th career French Open.

A brief stoppage for what looked to be a hand cramp could not stop Rafael Nadal. There were moments where Thiem could have slid into control, but Nadal kept him at bay when he was called to do so. His dominance on clay continues. Grass court season is right around the corner and that means the return of Swiss superstar Roger Federer. He skipped the clay court season and should be back and ready to go in the coming weeks. Nadal will surely relish in his 11th career French Open title over the next few days. Congrats to the King of Clay on his win.
