Angelique Kerber is off to an impressive start at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. The former finalist is into the round of 32.

German tennis star Angelique Kerber has two wins under her belt at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. She is a former finalist at the Grand Slam and is one of the most experienced remaining players this year. Several top seeds have seen unexpected upsets during the first week of play in London. Kerber continues to advance, facing Naomi Osaka next.

Kerber’s success comes as other heavy favorites are being ousted. Most notably, both second seed Caroline Wozniacki and defending champion and third seed Garbine Muguruza have exited Wimbledon. Muguruza drops a three set match to Alison Van Uytvanck of Belgium.

Kerber reached the finals at Wimbledon in 2016. There, she finished runner-up to American tennis legend Serena Williams. Kerber does have two Grand Slam singles titles on her resume. Winning both the 2016 Australian Open and the 2016 US Open, the German became one of the top players in women’s tennis. Her 2016 WTA Tour is undoubtedly the best year in her career to date. Kerber can, however, strike at any given moment. This year at Wimbledon just might end up being one of those moments. In the meantime, she is clearly enjoying her time on the grass courts in London. Fans are happy to see her thriving at the major tournament.
