Jack Sock: bad boy side revealed, on-court struggles continue

Jack Sock drops a tense five set match to Italian tennis player Matteo Berrettini during his opener at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships.
Jack Sock continues to struggle on the ATP World Tour. And apparently, his lack of success got the best of him while shaking hands with his opponent after his Wimbledon loss. Meeting the young Italian winner at the net, the number 18 seed used an obscenity while referring to Berrettini’s coach. The statement has come back to bite Sock as he’s been fined $5,000.
The American tennis stars drops a match that could have gone either way at several different points. The Italian takes it 6-7 (5), 6-7 (3), 6-4, 7-5, 6-2.

According to Sock, Berrettini was talking down to him throughout their meeting. The shocking loss, combined with the back and forth between the two tennis players, clearly got the best of Sock. He exited the courts after the match without speaking to the media but would later sit down and explain the situation. Fines and loss aside, the American needs to reevaluate his play moving forward. The 2018 ATP World Tour was supposed to be a breakout year for Sock. He had sky rocketed in the singles rankings coming into the year but has yet to find his footing in 2018. While he struggles, other rising stars are passing him by.
Jack Sock is losing ground to the likes of Alexander Zverev, Dominic Thiem, David Goffin, and others. He is also losing his hold atop the headlines as the top American men’s tennis player. Both John Isner and Sam Querrey have reached the round of 32 at Wimbledon.
20-year-old Frances Tiafoe is also making waves at the Grand Slam event. He is into the third round, making it his best performance at a major tournament yet. Tiafoe burst onto the scene and could very well represent the next generation of men’s US tennis stars. As for Jack Sock, he needs a strong second half of the 2018 ATP World Tour. In 2016, he reached the fourth round of action at the US Open. He ought to focus on the upcoming play at Flushing Meadows.
