Federer’s journey to the title defense gets stronger with each match; can he be stopped?

In yesterday’s match against German Jan Lennard Struff, Federer looked his exquisite best as he demolished Struff in straight sets. The Swiss Number 1 seed is yet to have his serve broken. Even more, he is yet to have faced a breakpoint, or taken to deuce in his service games. In his second round encounter against Lukas Lacko, Federer won 35 points in a row on his serve.

1 common complaint among fans and even Federer himself (after his match against Paire in Halle) in his recent performance (before the commencement of Wimbledon) was that he was playing too passive by not attacking shots he usually would’ve, especially 2nd serves. However, Federer is becoming increasingly aggressive, even going as far as employing the SABR(Sneak Attack By Roger) in his 3rd round match.

Seeing how well he’s been playing, can Federer be stopped?

At this rate, not really

Many players who stood a chance to pose a threat to Federer have dropped like flies before the end of the third round. Marin Cilic, considered the second favourite to clinch the title, lost in the 2nd round in 5 sets. Defending champions’ hope destroyer and Mexican Lord Sam Querrey also lost in his 3rd round match against Gael Monfils. Borna Coric lost in the 1st round, and all the players who can maybe cause issues are in the other half of the draw.

The resurgence of Djokovic?

Djokovic has gone seemingly unnoticed this Wimbledon. His wins have been emphatic and convincing, and he seems to finally have rediscovered his old form. If Djokovic were to reach the final, it is likely that he will cause issues in Federer’s title defence, and perhaps even deny him of it. With how Rafa has been playing, it could be that the King of Clay could also have a deep run and perhaps meet Federer in the final, recreating the greatest final of all time from 10 years ago.

Whatever happens, If Federer maintains his form and if he meets either Rafa or Novak, things are will become very, very interesting.
