John Isner is having a career year on the ATP World Tour. The American tennis veteran is heating up just in time for the US Open.

American tennis veteran John Isner reached the semifinals at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. Falling to eventual runner-up Kevin Anderson, Isner marked his career best run at any of the four Grand Slam events on the ATP World Tour. At 33-years-old, the American tennis star is reemerging as one of the top contenders in men’s singles tennis.

Currently, Isner is in action as the top seed at the Atlanta Open. Last year, he took the title there, defeating fellow countryman Ryan Harrison in the finals. Isner has seen plenty of success in Atlanta before. Winning his opener, he is poised to gain even more momentum in the weeks leading into play at Flushing Meadows.

His run at the Wimbledon Championships included wins over the likes of Stefanos Tsitsipas, Milos Raonic, and Radu Albot among others. His five-set epic against the South African Anderson could have gone either way. Isner’s towering presence on the court was no match for the first five players he met at the Grand Slam.

Although some players put him to the test, the American brought his experience to the table. Prior to this year’s action at Wimbledon, his best performance in a major had been at the 2011 US Open. If he can repeat the consistency he displayed in London, Isner is easily a top contender at the upcoming Grand Slam.

Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal remain the players to beat at the upcoming US Open. Veterans such as John Isner, however, are getting hot at the right moment to make a run.

The semifinals meeting at Wimbledon between John Isner and Kevin Anderson is telling as to the state of the 2018 ATP World Tour. While Novak Djokovic would win the title, other veterans beyond the Big Four are making a resurgence. Last year, Anderson reached the finals at the major tournament. Isner has the experience and momentum right now to make a title run. A win at the US Open would make it his first ever in any Grand Slam event. As the current world number nine in men’s singles tennis, the American veteran is someone to watch in the coming weeks.
