Rafael Nadal defeats Benoit Paire to advance into the round of 16 at this year’s Rogers Cup. The field in men’s singles is stacked with talent and Nadal is just one of many top contenders for the title. A former winner at the event, Nadal last made a championship run in 2013 at the Rogers Cup. He is a three-time winner.
Up next for the world number one is a difficult matchup in Stan Wawrinka. The tennis star is coming off of a hard fought three-set victory in both his opener against Nick Kyrgios and then again in the round of 64. He could pose a threat to Nadal.

Wawrinka, one of the greats in men’s singles today, is just 3-16 against Nadal throughout his career on the ATP World Tour. The Swiss tennis star last took two of his three wins over Rafa in 2015 but it has been all Rafa ever since. And this year, Nadal is living up to his billing as arguably one of the greatest ever.
He and Roger Federer have dominated the 2018 ATP World Tour. Earlier this summer, Nadal successfully defended his title at the French Open. The Grand Slam victory was his 11th at Roland Garros. A Rogers Cup title would do wonders to boost the world number one’s momentum heading into the upcoming US Open.
Rafael Nadal takes on Stan Wawrinka next at the Rogers Cup. The world number one is one of the heavy favorites to take the title this year. Others include defending champion Alexander Zverev and recent Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic.
