Genie Bouchard Falters At Odlum Brown VanOpen After Huge Upset

Genie Bouchard is knocked out of the Odlum Brown VanOpen one match after winning a tough and unexpected upset over the tournament’s top seed.

Canadian tennis star Genie Bouchard has struggled to gain her footing in both ITF and WTA Tour events so far in 2018. Seeing some flashes of success, the young Genie found herself experiencing one of those moments this week at the Odlum Brown VanOpen.

Going up against the tournament’s top seed in Kateryna Kozlova, Bouchard notched a tough three-set victory. She takes the meeting 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

Then came Japan’s Nao Hibino for Bouchard in the quarterfinals. Despite coming off of a massive upset victory over the top seed, Genie lost momentum in the second set against Hibino. Bouchard earned a strong first set win, going 6-3 before dropping both of the final two sets 1-6 3-6. Hibino completes the win and has been circling Bouchard in the singles rankings recently. Both players are fighting to find a way back into the top 100.

Genie Bouchard is ousted from the Odlum Brown VanOpen just one match after upsetting the tournament’s top seed. She falls to Japan’s Nao Hibino in three sets.

Always a fan favorite, Genie Bouchard makes headlines both on and off the tennis courts. Despite her on and off play as of late, Genie continues to garner attention.
