Simona Halep Fresh Off Win, Poised For US Open Success
By Harry Floyd
Simona Halep remains the world number one on the WTA Tour. The Romanian tennis star continues her success at just the right time.
Current French Open champion Simona Halep is riding high on the 2018 WTA Tour. Remaining the world number one in women’s singles tennis, she has outpaced the rest of the field. Several other top players such as Australian Open champion Caroline Wozniacki have seen stellar performances, but it is Halep who remains in control of the tour.
The Romanian tennis star is coming off of a Canadian Open win in Montreal. It was her third title on the year, winning her others at Roland Garros and Shenzhen.

Now, the French Open champion eyes action at the upcoming US Open. Her fine play as of late makes her the player to beat. She is even into the semifinals in Cincinnati and on the verge of possibly another 2018 singles title.
While the French Open this year was her first career Grand Slam singles title on the WTA Tour level, Halep could breakout for another at Flushing Meadows. In 2015, she reached the semifinals at the US Open.
Simona Halep must be considered the favorite at the upcoming US Open. The current French Open champion has remained the top player in women’s singles for the majority of the 2018 WTA Tour.
Some players that could challenge Simona Halep include veteran greats Angelique Kerber and Petra Kvitova. The younger stars to watch are Elina Svitolina, Garbine Muguruza, and defending US Open champion Sloane Stephens. One thing is certain at the upcoming Grand Slam in Flushing Meadows; the field in women’s singles will be stacked with talent. If the world number one can complete the title run, 2018 must be considered her year on the WTA Tour.
