Roger Federer is the underdog amongst Nadal and Djokovic

Roger Federer is arguably the greatest player ever in men’s singles tennis. He is, however, the underdog this year at the 2018 US Open.

Roger Federer enters the 2018 US Open as one of several favorites to take the title. While the 20-time Grand Slam singles champion is arguably the greatest ever to grace a tennis court, he has some stiff competition at Flushing Meadows. Coming off of the Cincinnati Masters, Novak Djokovic is riding high after defeating Federer in the finals.

The Serbian superstar is also fresh off of a win at the 2018 Wimbledon Championships. After struggling to make his comeback to the ATP World Tour from ongoing injuries, Nole is once again one of the premier players in men’s singles tennis.

Federer and Nadal have largely dominated the ATP World Tour as of late, but Federer will need to be at his very best if he hopes to outpace everyone at the US Open. Nadal is the current French Open champion, winning his 11th at Roland Garros this year. The Spanish great also recently won the Canadian Open and is the defending champion at the US Open. Last year, he took down South African tennis player Kevin Anderson in the finals. Anderson is having a stellar past 12 months on the tour. He is just one of several surging veteran greats.

Roger Federer is a top contender at this year’s US Open. He is, however, just one of many heavily qualified players vying for the title.

Standing in the way of Roger Federer are both veteran greats and young rising stars. Those like Alexander Zverev or Hyeon Chung could make unprecedented runs at the upcoming major tournament. Others such as Nadal or Djokovic are primed to continue their 2018 tour success right into action at Flushing Meadows. As for Federer, he remains the world number two in men’s singles and a favorite in any match he plays. If he advances deep into the US Open though, he must anticipate running into a challenge from the likes of a Nadal or Djokovic.
