Dominic Thiem: Can He Win His First Ever Grand Slam?
By Harry Floyd
Dominic Thiem faces a massive challenge next at the 2018 US Open. He must get through a meeting with defending champion Rafael Nadal.
Austrian tennis star Dominic Thiem is on the rise in recent years on the ATP World Tour. He is on the verge of another shot at his first ever grand slam title. In his way, however, is the defending champion in Spanish superstar Rafael Nadal.
Earlier this year, the two tennis stars faced one another at the French Open. While it was Thiem’s first shot at a grand slam title, Nadal would come away with his 11th career French Open win. Making history at Roland Garros, Rafa proved why he deserves to be number one.

Looking at their career head-to-head on the ATP World Tour, Thiem has seen success against Rafa as recently as this year. He took a singles win off of the Spanish great in Madrid. He has done it before, but will need to dig deep tomorrow night at Arthur Ashe Stadium if he hopes to cruise through Nadal at the US Open.
Nadal is the defending champion in the men’s singles field at Flushing Meadows. He is also the top seed at the US Open. While others such as current Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic or Swiss superstar Roger Federer remain alive, Nadal is easily a top, if not the favorite, contender this month in New York.
Dominic Thiem squares off against Rafael Nadal for a chance to continue on at the 2018 US Open. The two meet on Tuesday at Flushing Meadows.
