Swiss tennis legend Roger Federer was the player to beat last year at the Laver Cup and little has changed since the maiden edition of the event.

When it mattered most this week in Chicago, tennis star Roger Federer came to play. He defeats American veteran John Isner to kick off Day 3 singles action at the 2018 Laver Cup. Fighting back after a first set tiebreak loss, Federer emerged with momentum in the second. He would end up taking down the red hot Isner as he gave Team Europe the lead back.

As Jack Sock and Nick Kyrgios notched a doubles win at the end of Day 2, Team World was back in the running for the title.

Another doubles victory for Team World gave them an 8-7 lead at the start of Day 3. It was in the singles action, however, that Federer turned the tide. Despite losing his doubles meeting alongside Alexander Zverev, the two roared back to close out the 2018 Laver Cup.

At the Laver Cup, you win the number of points associated with the day of the action. That means that on Day 3, both Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev won 3 points each for Team Europe. They needed it after dropping the doubles match to start the day. But as soon as Sascha Zverev notched his singles victory, it was all said and done. Team Europe walks away with a 13-8 win over Team World in the second iteration of the Laver Cup. The event in Chicago lived up to the billing and ought to lead right into more fantastic action on the ATP World Tour. While players stepped away from the tour to participate, the field was jam-packed with stars and is sure to get the best in men’s singles in the mindset for the final months of the year.
