Novak Djokovic vs. Kevin Anderson: Rematch at Shanghai Masters
By Harry Floyd
Current Wimbledon and US Open champion Novak Djokovic finds himself up against his finals opponent from the grand slam in London yet again.
Kevin Anderson has experienced a fantastic year on the 2018 ATP World Tour but Novak Djokovic has had an even better year. The two met recently during the finals at this year’s Wimbledon Championships in London. Djokovic saw a 6–2, 6–2, 7–6 win over the South African tennis veteran. The grand slam title put Nole back on the map.
Then, the two met again at the second edition of the Laver Cup.

Team Europe roared to a second straight title at the event but it was Anderson who had Djokovic’s number there. Winning a three set singles match over Djokovic, he evened his score from the Wimbledon loss. In between Wimbledon and the Laver Cup, the two players teamed up in men’s doubles at the Canadian Open. They reached the quarterfinals at the event.
This week, Djokovic and Anderson meet during the quarterfinals at the Shanghai Masters.
Novak Djokovic is a three-time champion in men’s singles at the tournament but Anderson will prove to be a difficult player to defeat. While Nole is 6-1 all-time in ATP singles matches against the South African, Anderson can make it interesting. Both Djokovic and Anderson are yet to drop a single set in Shanghai.
As Novak Djokovic and Kevin Anderson face off in their quarterfinals matchup, other stars in men’s singles remain alive. Top seed and defending champion Roger Federer is also still alive in Shanghai. He faces Kei Nishikori next at the event. Nishikori is the tournament’s eighth seed, Djokovic is the second seed, and Anderson is the seventh seed. Federer remains the player to beat but anything can happen as we near a thrilling conclusion at the 2018 Shanghai Masters. Check back for updates on how Nole fares against Anderson next at the tournament.
