European Open Sees Kyle Edmund, Gael Monfils Reach Finals

Action at the 2018 European Open sees two stars of the sport reach the finals this week. Top seed Kyle Edmund takes on veteran Gael Monfils.

Kyle Edmund has a shot at his first career ATP singles title this week at the European Open. In his way, however, is French tennis veteran and fan favorite Gael Monfils. The towering and athletic French veteran is seeking his second title on the year. He is yet to win two titles in any given year. Either Edmund is going to notch his first career title or Monfils will break his single title per year streak when it’s all said and done.

Action at the European Open finals goes down on Sunday in Antwerp, Belgium.

In the semifinals, Edmund ousts another French veteran in Richard Gasquet. Edmund is the top seed and could be considered a slight favorite over Monfils next. As for Monfils, he takes down the second seed in Diego Schwartzman. Both Edmund and Monfisl take their semifinals meeting in straight sets and are poised to come out strong for the finals.

Kyle Edmund and Gael Monfils make for a thrilling conclusions at the 2018 European Open in Antwerp, Belgium. The two square off on Sunday at the ATP 250 series event.

This year, the ATP World Tour has seen a stellar mix of youthful and veteran talent. The European Open is yet another showcase for just that. Elsewhere, several players such as Novak Djokovic are eyeing the end of year action at the ATP Finals in London. While Nole might be considered the favorite there, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and others could make a run. Federer, arguably the best tennis player to ever grace a court (at least in men’s singles tennis), should never be discounted.
