Angelique Kerber Rebounds From Opening Match WTA Finals Loss
By Harry Floyd
German tennis star Angelique Kerber is back in the win column after a loss during her 2018 WTA Finals opener in Singapore this year.
Angelique Kerber found herself becoming the favorite to take the title at the 2018 WTA Finals somewhat unexpectedly. World number one and the winner of the Porsche Race to Singapore, Simona Halep, has withdrawn from the finals action due to injury. An ongoing back injury has gotten the best of Halep as of late.
It is Kerber then who enters the action this year as the number one seed. She also joins a group of extremely talented players in the Red Group.

During the opening match of her singles round robin, Kerber went up against Kiki Bertens. A seemingly easy first set victory made it appear as though the German tennis star would cruise to victory.
Bertens roared back, however, winning the final two sets with ease. Bertens took the meeting over the number one seed, going 1-6 6-3 6-4.
Angelique Kerber bounces back at the WTA Finals, defeating recent US Open champion Naomi Osaka. Taking the grand slam winner to three sets, Kerber comes away with a hard fought 6–4, 5–7, 6–4 victory. She takes on American Sloane Stephens next in Singapore.
The field in women’s singles is one of the most difficult this year at the WTA Finals. Angelique Kerber is a veteran with the skills necessary to take the title but several rising stars stand in her way. One of them is Stephens who she faces next. The American is off to a fantastic start, winning the first two matches in the Red Group during singles round robin action. She has easily emerged as a favorite in Singapore this year, peaking at just the right time. Kerber cannot take her upcoming meeting Stephens lightly if she hopes to continue on at the 2018 WTA Finals.
