The 2018 WTA Finals is nearing its conclusion. The action is unfolding so that we are guaranteed to see a brand new champion in women’s singles.

Elina Svitolina meets Sloane Stephens for a chance at the title during this year’s WTA Finals action in women’s singles tennis. The two rising stars of the sport face off on Sunday for a chance at glory. One thing is certain; we are guaranteed to see a new champion this week.

The Ukrainian star knocked out Kiki Bertens during her semifinals meeting. Bertens had something of an unexpected run at the WTA Finals, taking down the likes of Angelique Kerber and current US Open champion Naomi Osaka in the group stage.

Both Svitolina and Stephens would seal their semifinals matches in three sets. Bertens did not go away easily for the Ukrainian. And as for the American tennis star, Stephens ousted former world number one Karolína Plíšková in a hard fought back and forth battle. Stephens wins their semifinals match 0-6 6-4 6-1.

The WTA Finals comes down to this: Elina Svitolina versus Sloane Stephens. They are two of the sport’s biggest rising stars in women’s singles. No matter how the action unfolds, the WTA Finals will crown a brand new champion this year.

Stephens, who won the 2017 US Open, has been hit and miss on the WTA Tour throughout the last few years. When she is on her a-game though, the American is relentless. Earlier this year, she made her way into the finals at Roland Garros, falling to world number one Simona Halep 3–6, 6–4, 6–1. The American has regained her consistency.

As for Svitolina, she too has appeared on the verge of greatness for several years now. It seems as though she is destined for either a grand slam title or a win at an event such as the WTA Finals in the near future. She has a chance to do just that on Sunday when she takes on Stephens. Stay tuned to see who will be crowned the champion in women’s singles tennis at this year’s WTA Finals in Singapore.
