Towering South African Kevin Anderson joins elite company as he wins in Vienna and clinches his place in the 2018 ATP Finals.
Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic are the first names you think of when discussing this year’s ATP Finals, but what about Kevin Anderson?
The South African veteran tennis star has reemerged as a force in men’s singles tennis this year. His 44-16 ATP singles match record to date puts him among the best on the tour right now. He has two titles wins on the year, including his recent in Vienna. The Vienna title clinches his place in a star-studded field of legendary tennis players poised for greatness at the ATP Finals.
It seems as though Djokovic has all of the momentum right now heading into action in London. He is coming off of two grand slam singles titles at the Wimbledon Championships and then again at the US Open. He has also seen tremendous success at the end of year event before. His surging on tour as of late makes him the player to beat in London. Do not discount the likes of Anderson and others though. He has his own string of momentum working in his favor.
A title in Vienna puts Kevin Anderson into the mix for this year’s ATP Finals in London. The Race to London has see veteran greats return to overtake the sport. While Alexander Zverev is representing the younger generation, Dominic Thiem is fighting to be one of the only other rising stars in the field. He and Croatian veteran Marin Cilic are currently vying for seventh and eighth position at the ATP Finals.
Kevin Anderson reached the US Open finals last year and the finals at Wimbledon this year. At 32-years-old, he is entering a new era in his career and it is working for him. Like so many other veteran greats such as Federer, Nadal, and Djokovic, Anderson remains atop the sport.
