Can Roger Federer Take Advantage As Rafael Nadal Fades?
By Harry Floyd
Roger Federer continues on this week at the Paris Masters. Looking ahead, can he take advantage of the potential absence of Rafael Nadal at the ATP Finals?
Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from action at the Paris Masters and this could mean many things for players such as Roger Federer moving forward. Not only is the Swiss legend still alive in Paris, but Nadal’s withdrawal casts doubts on his ability to compete at the ATP Finals in London.
Federer can take full advantage of a Nadal absence at the O2 Arena. Both he and Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic have fared well at the end of year event throughout the past decade.

Up next for Federer in Paris is Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori. Federer is the third seed in men’s singles this week and is one of the top contenders for the title with Nadal out of the mix.
The Swiss great was given a first round pass when Milos Raonic retired. Cruising through his match against Italian Fabio Fognini, Federer takes the round of 16 meeting in straight sets. He wins 6-4 6-3 and advances to meet Nishikori.
If Rafael Nadal is unable to go at the 2018 ATP Finals, the odds immediately shift in favor of either Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer. Djokovic is surging after winning both the Wimbledon Championships and then the US Open. He has the momentum right now. Federer, on the other hand, is attempting to reestablish the game he had to kick off his tour this year.
Never count Roger Federer out. This is especially true when players like Nadal are not in the field. Federer is a former champion at the Paris Masters. Other champions like Djokovic and defending champ Jack Sock are also still alive though. Federer needs another match or two under his belt this week in Paris if he hopes to gain some real momentum for the end of year ATP Finals.
