Tennis is in need of its next great superstar… and we’ve found him in Alexander Zverev. The German is your 2018 ATP Finals champion.
Alexander Zverev wins his biggest tournament to date at the 2018 ATP Finals in London. The kicker is that it also comes at the hands of world number one Novak Djokovic. The Serbian great was the clearcut favorite coming into play at this year’s ATP Finals. Men’s singles tennis needs a standout player from the younger generation and Zverev continues to prove that he is that player the sport has been searching for.
The win for Zverev comes not only against arguably the best player on the 2018 ATP World Tour, but it also comes in convincing fashion. His brilliant play against Djokovic sees Sascha winning the finals match in straight sets. He goes 6-4 6-3, defeating the top player in men’s singles tennis. Now, the young German looks ahead to what is sure to be a bright future.
Last year, Zverev made his first ever appearance at the end of year event at the O2 Arena. This year, he walks away from the ATP Finals a champion.
Zverev has already been named amongst the top young players in tennis today. The rising star has been quick to update his social media following his recent title. Fans are joining in on his celebrations everywhere, congratulating Zverev any chance they get. He has the making of a future champion and this win is undoubtedly just the beginning.
Prior to play at the ATP Finals this year, Djokovic was coming off of back-to-back Grand Slam singles titles. Winning both the Wimbledon Championships and the US Open, Nole had fully recovered from his injury-prone start to the year. His finals run at the O2 Arena is another accomplishment that Djokovic will take plenty of positives away from. It looks as though Nole is back to his top form and he should be the top contender heading into 2019. Zverev, on the other hand, represents the biggest challenge to the likes of Djokovic and others such as Roger Federer or Rafael Nadal. Sascha is the future and he is just going to get better and better.
