2018 ATP World Tour: The Biggest Takeaway Involves Novak Djokovic

2018 ATP World Tour: Looking back at this past year, the biggest takeaway must involve the resurgence of tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
The 2018 ATP World Tour has featured countless storylines worth discussing but none more so than the resurgence of tennis star Novak Djokovic. After struggling due to injury in 2017, the former world number one is back atop the men’s singles rankings. His return to greatness is almost unparalleled in the sport. Finding his rhythm mid-season, Nole went on a dream run at the Wimbledon Championships.
He would take the title, defeating South African tennis veteran Kevin Anderson in the finals. Djokovic also defeated the likes of Rafael Nadal, Kei Nishikori, Karen Khachanov, and Kyle Edmund throughout his time at Wimbledon.
Little did we know that the Grand Slam win at Wimbledon was just the beginning. Nole would carry his momentum right through the major tournament, heading into Flushing Meadows as a top contender. There, he would take on Juan Marin del Potro in the finals. Djokovic’s US Open run would see him drop just a single set.
Novak Djokovic becomes the world number one in men’s singles yet again.
The 2018 ATP World Tour should be remembered as The Year of Djokovic. His two Grand Slam singles wins, regaining the world number one ranking, and then reaching the finals at the O2 Arena in London appear to be a prelude of more to come.
Battling with tennis legends Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal throughout much of the middle months of the 2018 ATP World Tour, Djokovic emerged as the player to beat. Nadal withdrew from the ATP Finals in London due to injury and the writing was on the walls even before then. Heading into the upcoming season, fans and players must turn their attention to Nole.
An ATP Finals title almost seemed too good to be true for Djokovic… and it was. Rising tennis star Alexander Zverev may be the next big thing in men’s singles tennis. Stepping up against the world number one in the finals, the young German comes away with his first ever title at the end of year event. If there’s anyone who can challenge the likes Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal in 2019, it is Sascha Zverev. On the 2018 ATP World Tour though, the Serbian superstar won Grand Slams and went toe to toe with the best in the sport. The year belongs to him.
