Women’s singles action at the 2019 Australian Open has to favor the defending champion in Caroline Wozniacki.

Danish tennis star Caroline Wozniacki is coming off of another career year on the WTA Tour. She was previously a world number one in women’s singles tennis but had never notched a Grand Slam singles title. That all changed in 2018 when she met Simona Halep in the finals at the Australian Open.

Caroline Wozniacki is the player to beat at the 2019 Australian Open.

Wozniacki would emerge victorious, tasting glory at a major tournament for the first time ever. She now joins elite company in the record books. Outlasting the Romanian tennis great, Wozniacki came away with a three-set victory at Melbourne Park.

Looking ahead to the 2019 Australian Open, Wozniacki is the favorite to take the title again. In her rear view will be the likes of Elina Svitolina, Sloane Stephens, Naomi Osaka, Garbine Muguruza, and Angelique Kerber. Several others could pose a threat but those are the names to consider as of right now. Regarding Halep, health is a major concern. If she can find some early WTA Tour consistency and prove that she is at full strength, she ought to be in the mix too.
