The two Russian tennis players are good friends. They even partnered up when they took the silver medal at the 2014 Summer Youth Olympics. Rublev and Khachanov regularly workout and train together in the offseason and this year was no different.
On the 2019 ATP Tour, Khachanov will look to crack the ATP Top 10 in the early months. Right on the verge in the world number 11 position, he has already tasted incredible success. There is no reason to think he will slow down now. Khachanov has four ATP singles titles to his name, three of which came in 2018.
One of those titles was even a Masters 1000 win when he took the title in Paris. There, he took down the red hot and legendary tennis player Novak Djokovic in the finals. Heading into the new year, Nole is the player to beat and Khachanov has tasted success against him. Djokovic, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal may be atop the rankings in men’s singles, but players such as Khachanov and Rublev are poised to breakout as the next big thing on the ATP Tour. The upcoming year could be a major turning point.
Look for Andrey Rublev and Karen Khachanov to be right in the mix with the best in men’s singles this coming year. Both have seen strong performances already on the tour. They, along with the likes of Hyeon Chung, ATP Finals champion Alexander Zverev, Kyle Edmund, Dominic Thiem, and others are ushering in a new era in men’s singles tennis. The sport is witnessing a new generation that will replace the Djokovic and his peers in just a few short years.
