1 – Alexander Zverev at the 2019 Australian Open

The player who has the most realistic chance of winning the 2019 Australian Open this year, apart from the main three is fourth seed, Alexander Zverev. The way he finished last year, by winning the ATP Tour Finals was a glimpse at what he can do, now he has to prove it by getting deep into a grand slam.

Considering he’s had so much success on the main tour, it’s incredible to think that the furthest he’s ever got in a grand slam is the quarter-final, at the French Open last year. The furthest he’s got at the Australian Open is only the third round.

He’s seeded fourth in a section he should navigate with ease. The fourth round would either be against Milos Raonic or last year’s semi-finalist Hyeon Chung who have both been in patchy form lately. In the quarter-final, Zverev should meet Coric or Thiem who he should beat on a hard court. Then a semi-final with Novak Djokovic, who he beat at the ATP Tour Finals last year. That would be quite a spectacle. Check back to see how these surprise predictions end up throughout the 2019 Australian Open.
