Eugenie Bouchard believes Serena Williams is Australian Open favorite

Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard has been ousted at the 2019 Australian Open. She falls to the player she believes to be the favorite.
Eugenie Bouchard faced an extremely difficult second round matchup with one of the greatest in the sport at this year’s Australian Open. There is no-one more accomplished in women’s singles tennis than Serena Williams. It is the legendary American who moves on, defeating Bouchard in straight sets in the round of 64. Williams wins 6-2 6-2.
In the aftermath of the loss though, Bouchard remained optimistic. She saw a strong opening round win to setup the match with Williams. Overall, the American got the best of her and Genie admitted that Williams played near her best tennis.
Bouchard would go as far as to say that the American tennis icon must be considered the favorite to take the title this year at Melbourne Park. And why should any of us doubt that? Williams is a seven-time winner at the Australian Open. That’s just in women’s singles. She also has four women’s doubles titles at the major tournament.

Up next for Bouchard is expected to be action at the Newport Beach 125K. Consistent play is key for the young Canadian right now. She saw a solid finish to her 2018 WTA Tour before starting off the year on a high note.
Alongside American tennis star Sofia Kenin, Bouchard claimed her first ever women’s doubles title, winning the ASB Classic. Kenin also drops out of the action at Melbourne Park during the second round, falling to top seeded Simona Halep is a tough three set match. As for Williams, she moves on and faces 18-year-old Dayana Yastremska in the third round at the 2019 Australian Open. Once must think that Williams is a massive favorite in their upcoming matchup. The young Ukrainian tennis player is fresh off of an upset over the 23rd seeded Carla Suárez Navarro, but she will need to dig even deeper when taking on Williams next.
Eugenie Bouchard has plenty of positive takeaways from her time at the Australian Open. She must remain optimistic and push forward on the 2019 WTA Tour.
