French tennis star Gael Monfils is seeing some early success at the Rotterdam Open. Can he keep this momentum up moving forward?

Gael Monfils has reached the semifinals at the 2019 Rotterdam Open. Earlier this month, Lob and Smash broke down the French tennis veteran’s chances at an ATP singles title this year. As of right now, his chances are looking even better with his current run of tennis in Rotterdam. Monfils reaches the semifinals, facing a tough challenge in Daniil Medvedev next.

Monfils defeated the red hot Damir Džumhur in the quarterfinals earlier this week. Džumhur opened his time at the Rotterdam Open by knocking out rising ATP star Stefanos Tsitsipas in a three set thriller.

Now, the French tennis star is one step away from a title shot at the Rotterdam Open. One thing is clear after his first three wins at the event… Monfils is plenty capable of taking home a title this year on the ATP Tour. He needs to keep it up, but we like his chances at winning at least one ATP singles title in 2019. It may not come this week, but it is right around the corner.

Also in action at the Rotterdam Open is Japanese tennis star and top seeded Kei Nishikori. He takes on Swiss great Stan Wawrinka in the other semifinals matchup this weekend. A title will not come easy to Monfils or any of the other three.

Overall, Monfils is performing well to start the 2019 ATP Tour. He reached the semifinals in Sofia prior to action in Rotterdam. There, he defeated Tsitsipas in the quarterfinals. Monfils is playing hard-fought tennis against the best in men’s singles right now. There is no reason to think that he will let up as the year continues.

Look for Gael Monfils to reach a tournament final in the coming weeks if it does not come at Rotterdam. He is one of the best of his generation and a huge fan favorite. If he remains healthy, Monfils will continue to stand a chance in any tournament he plays. While he has never won more than one ATP singles title in a given calendar year, he does have seven throughout his career and he brings tons of experience onto the court.
