Former world number one Simona Halep wins a second match at the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships. She is THE CURRENT FAVORITE at the tournament.

With top seed and surging tennis star Naomi Osaka out early at the Dubai Tennis Championships, former world number one Simona Halep easily became a strong pick to take the title. Halep is plenty capable of an impressive performance in Dubai and, so far, she is living up to the billing.

The Romanian wins her second straight match. Halep knocks out Ukrainian tennis player Lesia Tsurenko in straight sets during the round of 16. She wins the match, going 6-3, 7-5.

The third seed has earned wins over both Tsurenko and Eugenie Bouchard so far this week. She knocked out the young Canadian tennis player despite Genie seeing some promise in the early months of the 2019 WTA Tour. Halep won their meeting in straight sets even though Bouchard forced a tiebreak in the first.

Here is a look at some of the early winners and losers at the 2019 Dubai Tennis Championships. As action continues on, so will Halep. She continues to be among the winners and should be a favorite to take the title this year.

Another strong pick as of right now would be defending and back to back champion Elina Svitolina. The immediate road ahead is difficult for Svitolina though. She takes on Garbiñe Muguruza next in Dubai and cannot discount the two-time Grand Slam champion. Muguruza is the 12th seed this year in Dubai.

As the third seeded Halep awaits her next opponent, keep an eye on the like of Svitolina, Muguruza, and others such as second seed Petra Kvitova.
