The 2019 Open 13 is underway in Marseille, France this week. Action has reached the quarterfinals and David Goffin remains alive.

David Goffin earns his spot in the quarterfinals this week at the Open 13 in Marseille, France. The Belgian tennis star has struggled so far on the 2019 ATP Tour. With a 2-4 ATP singles match record coming into Marseille, Goffin broke a stretch of back to back opening round losses at his tournaments following the Australian Open.

Taking on French tennis veteran Benoît Paire in the round of 16, the third seeded Goffin finally found his rhythm on the courts. He wins in straight sets, defeating Paire in dominant fashion. Goffin takes the match 6-2, 6-3.

Up next for Goffin is another accomplished French tennis player in Gilles Simon. The two face off in the quarterfinals. Along with the two of them, there is only one other seeded player still alive at the Open 13. That player is the top seed in Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The Greek tennis star takes on Ukrainian veteran Sergiy Stakhovsky in the quarterfinals. Tsitsipas has to be considered the favorite right now as he is making headlines as one of the sport’s next big players on tour.

Also in the quarterfinals is Matthias Bachinger who takes on France’s Ugo Humbert next and rising Russian star Andrey Rublev who goes up against Mikhail Kukushkin. Rublev is someone to watch in the quarterfinals as he is an interesting pick besides Goffin or any of the other seeded players still in action this week.

As for Goffin, a win over Simon would be huge for his confidence moving forward. He has slid to the world number 24 ranking in men’s singles tennis after having gone as high as world number seven less than two years ago. We give Goffin the edge against Simon next but do not discount the backing of the crowd for the French tennis player in Marseille.
