Canadian tennis star Eugenie Bouchard is in action this week at Indian Wells. How will she fare in the women’s singles field?

So the practice round that Eugenie Bouchard shared with fans via her social media accounts was not exactly that… The young Canadian tennis player hit the courts in California in anticipation of the upcoming Indian Wells action. She took to the courts with an eight-year-old fan named Anya. Take a look at the post on Instagram here and watch Anya hit a winner.

In all seriousness though, Bouchard appears ready. She’s even wearing the necessary desert camouflage here. But really, how will Genie fare in the women’s singles action this month at Indian Wells?

Up first for Bouchard at Indian Wells is Belgian tennis veteran Kirsten Flipkens. The Belgian is the current world number 56 in women’s singles tennis. Bouchard, on the other hand, enters this week’s action as the world number 73.

Rankings may not mean much in this case. Both players have seen highs and lows so far on the 2019 WTA Tour. Flipkens currently posts a 3-4 singles match record and Bouchard posts a 6-5 singles match record. Beyond women’s singles action, Genie tasted success in doubles earlier this year when she and partner Sofia Kenin won the women’s doubles title in Auckland.

So who do you pick to win the Bouchard-Flipkens matchup in the round of 128 at Indian Wells? We’re going to go with Bouchard in three sets solely on the basis that she has fared better than Flipkens recently in her singles matches. The two have never met in women’s singles before so we don’t have a career head to head to draw from. This one is going to be something of a tossup.

No matter the winner of their meeting, either Bouchard or Flipkens is going to need to bring her best if a title run is in the cards. The women’s singles field is stacked with talent at Indian Wells. We took a look at why Serena Williams is being picked by oddsmakers as the favorite. Also in the mix is defending champion Naomi Osaka who needs to fend off several players who can potentially overtake her for the top ranking in women’s singles following the action.
