Another one of the must watch tennis players on the 2019 WTA Tour is a relatively fresh face in American Danielle Collins.

Danielle Collins reached a career high ranking on the WTA Tour in January, making her easily one of the top sleeper tennis players in 2019. The 25-year-old American hit the world number 23 ranking in women’s singles. At the Australian Open, Collins made headlines by reaching the semifinals at the major tournament. There, she would fall to tennis star Petra Kvitova but not before completing a stellar stretch of tennis.

At Melbourne Park, Collins defeated the likes of Julia Görges, Sachia Vickery, Caroline Garcia, Angelique Kerber, and Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Just like newfound Canadian star Bianca Andreescu, Collins has proven that she can hang with and beat the best that the sport has to offer. Women’s singles tennis is being disrupted by a new generation of players.

Collins is a former collegiate tennis star. Playing for the University of Virginia, she won the NCAA singles title in both 2014 and 2016. She is without a doubt someone to watch moving forward and must be considered a top contender amongst women tennis players this year. How the American fares in the middle months of 2019 will reveal whether or not she has what it takes to break into the WTA Top 15, 10 or even higher in the near future.
