Five Sleeper Tennis Players on the 2019 WTA Tour

Tennis players like Naomi Osaka and Simona Halep have several stars right behind them. Ashleigh Barty is one of them.

At just 22-years-old, Ashleigh Barty is quickly becoming one of the top tennis players in the sport. The young Australian recently hit a career high ranking of world number 11 in women’s singles. She is one of the top contenders on the WTA Tour right now. Her play in Sydney kicked off her year on a high note. There, Barty reached the finals where she fell to Petra Kvitova.

Her Sydney run included wins over Jeļena Ostapenko, Simona Halep, Elise Mertens, and Kiki Bertens. Following play in Sydney, Barty performed well at the Australian Open where she made it to the quarterfinals, falling to the surging Kvitova yet again. At Melbourne Park though, her wins included a stellar three set winner over tennis legend Maria Sharapova.

As of writing, Barty remains in action at the 2019 Miami Open. She is one tournament away from cracking the WTA Top 10. Barty might even make it sooner rather than later if those ahead of her stumble. She is the 2018 US Open women’s doubles champion and claimed all three of her singles titles in the last two years. Several more could be in there cards on the 2019 WTA Tour.
