Semifinals matchups are all set for women’s singles at the 2019 Miami Open. Here are our predictions on how they’ll unfold.

Action in women’s singles reaches the semifinals at the 2019 Miami Open this week. With both matches going down today, here are our predictions on who will reach the finals and who will go home. Let’s start with the later meeting between Simona Halep and Karolína Plíšková.

This is a must watch match. Halep is the tournament’s second seed this year and Plíšková is the fifth seed. Both are former world number ones on the WTA Tour.

Looking at their career head to head matchups, Halep has scoreboard. The Romanian tennis star is also coming off of straight set wins over Venus Williams and Wang Qiang. Plíšková, however, will prove to be a challenging opponent, but we like Halep in this one.

The second seed is eyeing a title at the Miami Open. While Plíšková rocketed out to a red hot start on the 2019 WTA Tour by winning in Brisbane, she remains just outside of the WTA Top five. This semifinals match will not be easy for either player. We expect at least one tiebreak but still give Halep the edge.

The other semifinals match at the Miami Open pits Australian tennis star Ashleigh Barty up against Estonian Anett Kontaveit. Both players are young up and coming stars in the sport. Barty is even among our FIVE SLEEPER PICKS FOR THE 2019 WTA TOUR.

Both Barty and Kontaveit have put together an impressive string of wins so far at the Miami Open. No matter who advances to the finals in this one, they each can rest assured that they gave their best here. We will take Barty in this one. Coming off of a hard-fought win over the third seeded Petra Kvitova, we see the young Australian as having just a bit more momentum than Kontaveit. Their semifinals match is sure to be exciting though and neither Halep nor Plíšková can discount either of these players in the finals.
