As the new WTA rankings come out following the 2019 Miami Open, players are rising and falling near the top in women’s singles.

Former world number one Karolína Plíšková moves closer and closer to the top of the WTA rankings in women’s singles this week. After finishing runner-up to rising Australian tennis star Ashleigh Barty at the 2019 Miami Open, the Czech jumps three places in the rankings. Plíšková is now the world number four on the WTA Tour.

Barty, this year’s Miami Open champion in women’s singles, cracks the WTA Top 10. The 22-year-old Australian has become someone to watch in 2019. Barty moves up two places and is now the world number nine.

Prior to the Miami Open, the Czech tennis star also reached the quarterfinals at Indian Wells. Before that, she advanced to the quarterfinals in Dubai and the semifinals at the Australian Open.

Both Barty and Plíšková are two of the hottest players in women’s singles tennis right now. Their meeting at the Miami Open finals is an almost picture perfect representation of their play so far on the 2019 WTA Tour.

Naomi Osaka remains the top player in the sport. She is followed by Romanian great Simona Halep and Petra Kvitova who swap places in the WTA rankings this week. Behind them is now Plíšková, then Angelique Kerber, Kiki Bertens, Elina Svitolina, and Sloane Stephens. With Barty in the ninth position, just behind her is Aryna Sabalenka. American tennis legend Serena Williams drops one place into the world number 11 position.
