Action at the 2019 Monterrey Open reaches the quarterfinals in women’s singles on Friday. Here’s a look at the upcoming matches.
The Monterrey Open enters the quarterfinals on Friday. Let’s dive deeper into who’s remaining and take a look at the matchups. Angelique Kerber is the top seed and favorite right now in Monterrey. She is yet to drop a single set at the event and takes on the sixth seeded Kirsten Flipkens next. We like Kerber to advance in this matchup.
Kerber will have her work cut out for her if she moves on though. Several top players remain in the action, including defending champion Garbine Muguruza.

The second seeded Muguruza defeated Timea Babos in the finals last year at the Monterrey Open. She enters the quarterfinals action, taking on Kristina Mladenovic.
While Muguruza is a heavy favorite in this matchup, she cannot discount Mladenovic. The French tennis star has rediscovered some success in women’s singles as of late and will prove to be a tough challenge for the second seed. This is a must watch matchup in Monterrey.
The eighth seeded Magdaléna Rybáriková goes up against American tennis player Sachia Vickery in their quarterfinals matchup. Vickery opened her time at the Monterrey Open with a huge upset victory over fellow American Allison Riske. Either her or Rybáriková could play spoiler in the semifinals and beyond.
We see a very interesting matchup between Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals. Pavlyuchenkova is the third seed in women’s singles at Monterrey and Azarenka is the fifth seed. Both players are on a roll at the event, playing fantastic tennis. We’re going to go with Azarenka in this one though. The former world number one is among our FIVE SLEEPER PICKS ON THE 2019 WTA TOUR.
Stay tuned to see who advances at the 2019 Monterrey Open quarterfinals and let us know who you like moving forward in the women’s singles action.
